Owned & Knotted belongs to one of my favourite universes by L.V. Lane. The ‘Darkly Ever Afterverse’ is a Dystopian Omegaverse world set in the future.
In the first book, Owned, we don’t have the designated ABO terms as we do in this short story sequel, but it was quite clear to me when I read the first book that the Author might go that way.
Read my review of the first book here.
In this 2nd book, the Omegaverse is fully developed and the designated categories exist. Though in this O-verse Betas can develop into Alphas or Omegas unless they take a sort of medication that blocks the transition, which I found kinda neat and a new twist on it.
It’s never really made clear if the 2nd book co-exists along with the 1st one or if it’s sometime after the 1st one, but Taylor (from book 1) is still present and in charge (though we don’t meet him in book 2) so I assume it’s a bit further forward from the first book. Also considering the dynamics have now developed properly, though there were tonnes of hints towards them in the 1st book (which I go into in detail in that review).
Owned & Knotted is a ‘why choose’ type of book, which is a category I do enjoy. It is an MMFM, making it a RH hehe. It’s something Lane writes extremely well and her intimate scenes are always a good favourite of mine no matter if it’s MM or MF. She does them sexy, smutty, heartfelt and dominating, but her female characters tend to be strong women who don’t take shit.
Imogen’s Alphas are OTT Alphas, they are a bit of an Alphahole I won’t lie. This is the typical Dystopian atmosphere. It can be a little dark but this short story is quite lite in my opinion and focuses more on the Alpha Trio getting back together again after they were split up for several years, as well as Imogen and her leadership of her people in her community. A community whose territory Taylor very much wants – hence why
That especially is the case here in the DEA verse as all three FMCs we have seen so far, are all of strong personalities and survivors. And even though they are aware that they are inferior in many ways to the men, and despite Taylor’s rules of ‘Ownership’ – these women fight strongly for what they believe in and are not to be trifled with, so if you enjoy strong females this is def a series worth exploring.
This is a 5-star read from me and if you have never read this series, I do think you should start with book 1, but this short story can be read as a stand-alone.
I truly hope there are more books to come in this universe as there is something unique about how Taylor rules his lands that is a bit different to what I am used to reading, and that put a good fresh look on this.
Tropes/Features:
Forced heat, orgasm denial, ownership/possession, knotting, Virus-induced ABO, mating bites.
